Haitian Media System and Its Main Characteristics: Towards a New Theoretical Model

This study focuses on the transformation of the Haitian media system and its main characteristics. Its content is the result of my doctoral thesis on the transformation of the Haitian media system over the past 60 years. In his doctoral thesis, I conclude that the Haitian media system transformed from 1957 to 2021 under the influence of three sets of factors: Linguistic, Democratic, and Technological. Nevertheless, the demonstrated changes in the relationships between the actors do not lead to a reconfiguration of the system.

The main characteristics of the latter and its environment remained unchanged. Also, I have demonstrated that the Haitian media system does not correspond to any of the three models proposed by Hallin and Mancini (2004). To this end, I propose a new model that corresponds to the Haitian media system and is applicable. This is the model of the precarious system of democratic transition. This new prototype can serve as a basis for analyzing the media systems of countries that have the same characteristics as Haitian media and the environment in which they operate. In his theorization, I take into consideration at least ten distinctive parameters allowing him to model the system in question. The study offers a foundational document on the Haitian media system.
